PhD programmes

This entry includes PhD programmes in humanities and social sciences that may be of interest for those looking for a PhD position in archaeology. Generally, positions on these programmes are advertised once (or twice) a year and require a research project proposal. As a consequence, closing dates are not as tight as PhD positions on specified topics. In addition to PhD programmes, open calls for application to PhD positions in humanities and social sciences that require a research project proposal are also listed here.

Hi, If you are not applying for a PhD position that is predefined (topic), you will have to start and figure out three things: 1) what: Which is the topic of the research I want to spend three or four years on / what new skills do I want to learn; 2) where: What is the best place to work on this topic / learn the new skill?; 3) how: Can I get funding for the PhD programme? If you are lucky, the answers to this threefold question sent you in one direction. In summary: you should have a plan as a starting point and work from there, figuring out what you have change from the original plan to get in a position. (Not to mention: manage your expectations, disappointment is unavoidable, and it’s about privileged positions, so it’s not always fair.)

Hi, check this website for more opportunities. There’s a specific program for PhD students from sub-saharan countries.
